The whole summer was cloudy and wet above average, but two lows that swept over in early September really challenged the high water mark. It was raining heavily day after day, and this Sunday the weather finally let go – at least for a time. There’s still widespread flooding all over the county, and while Koprivnica is no longer in direct danger, villages around Drava river are in for some sleepless nights.
Anyway, Sunday afternoon was nice and even somewhat sunny, so A. and I took a walk around the town. These are the remains of the medieval fortress. The moat is filled with rainwater.
A tiny landslide. The ground just couldn’t take all that water.
Flooded town…
There was also some damage to the roads, sidewalks and pavements. (This one is a bit older, though).
Walking on water.
Children’s playground.
In the park.
Autumn is coming.
An eponymous stream runs through Koprivnica. This is how high its water rose, the line is evident.
